At Hairtec, we believe you should be able to trust the information you read about your hair and your health. That is why we work with a fixed editorial process that ensures every article on hairtec.co.uk is reliable, understandable and up to date.
This process was developed by our own team of doctors, specialists and editors, and it forms the basis of everything we publish. But what does that process look like? And how do we make sure every article meets our standards?
Every article is written and checked according to the four pillars of our editorial policy: medical accuracy, transparency, clarity and currency. On this page you can read how these pillars work in practice, which sources we use and who reviews the content before it appears online. This policy applies to all blog articles and informative pages on our website and is reviewed periodically.
Our articles are intended to help you make a well-informed decision about your hair and your health. In doing so, we follow four principles.
Every article on hairtec.co.uk goes through five fixed steps before it is published.
All articles on hairtec.co.uk are written by our own specialists and reviewed by a doctor. For each article we state the name of the author, the editor and the doctor who carried out the medical review. This way, you always know who is responsible for the content you read.
Our doctors are BIG-registered, listed on the official Dutch medical register. You can find their registration numbers and backgrounds on the Our Team page. An article containing medical information does not go online without the approval of one of these doctors.
We base our articles on peer-reviewed studies, academic research institutions, medical journals and guidelines from recognised professional associations. Where possible, we reference the original study rather than a summary of it.
Beneath each article, under the heading Sources, you will find a numbered overview of the literature used, with a direct reference to the publication. This allows you to check for yourself where our information comes from.
We do not use forums, anonymous websites or manufacturer claims without scientific support as sources. When the evidence for a treatment or ingredient is limited, we say so in the article.
You may come across several dates on our articles. Each date refers to a specific step in our editorial process.
Under the heading History, you can see which versions of each article have existed and who was involved in each version.
Medical understanding changes. New studies appear, guidelines are revised and treatment methods continue to develop. That is why we review our articles periodically and adjust them whenever the scientific evidence gives reason to.
We also take signals from readers and patients seriously. When someone points out an inaccuracy or an outdated detail, the editorial team and a doctor investigate the report and amend the article where necessary.
Commercial considerations have no influence on the medical content of our texts. The doctor who reviews an article assesses only its factual accuracy. Where we refer to treatments offered at our clinic, we do so only when the treatment is directly relevant to the subject of the article.
We do not publish paid articles from third parties and we do not include sponsored medical claims in our texts.
