I’m Tom, and I make music professionally in Belgium with my band, The Starlings. What follows may read a bit like a glowing promo, but the team at Hairtec genuinely asked me to share everything about my recent hair transplant — and honestly, it’s nothing but positives. Here goes:
From around the age of 25 I kept going back and forth about whether to have a hair transplant. As a singer-songwriter I’m literally in the spotlight on stage, and with every bow or movement that exposed my crown I’d start worrying about how it came across to the audience. That insecurity only kept growing. I used camouflage products, but the feeling never really went away. Last summer I brought it up with my barber and that’s how I ended up on the Hairtec website. I’d already heard from a few people I know that they’d been there too. That, combined with a musical break of just over 3 months coming up (I was about to become a father for the first time), is what tipped the scales. So, just before my 34th birthday — after nearly 10 years of hesitating — I finally went for it.
On the day of the hair transplant I was honestly pretty nervous. In the morning they drew some blood, which I really don’t handle well; I put that kind of thing off for as long as I can. Once that part was over I calmed down and the transplant could begin. The first half hour was the most painful — that’s when they numb the whole scalp. You just have to push through it. After that everything was nice and chill. All in all it took a good few hours, but I could simply watch Netflix (the Beckham documentary), and before I knew it the day and the transplant were over.
Whenever I had a question I could just bring it up right there and then. The days after that, it took a little while to find the right sleeping position, but honestly, we’re now 6 months on and you forget about that quickly. The aftercare did need a bit of attention in the first few weeks — washing with a special shampoo and gently applying a lotion, both of which I got from Hairtec. I could always reach out by email, phone or WhatsApp whenever I wanted to ask something or was unsure about anything. I was genuinely impressed by how quickly they replied — in my experience that really isn’t common. The follow-up feels very close, and that builds a lot of trust.
We’re now 12 months on from the hair transplant and I’ve also had a course of four receptor treatments. I’m really happy, and I honestly didn’t expect such a great result!
